What exactly is Carbon Offsetting?

All of our product pages mention that deliveries are 'carbon offset' and that our products support community projects in rural Africa, but that's just a load of words on a website. So what does it actually mean?

Carbon offsetting is a way to balance out your carbon emissions by investing in projects that reduce or capture an equivalent amount of CO2, helping to mitigate your environmental impact while working towards more sustainable practices. We purchase offsets from a few projects such as one that save carbon by providing clean water through borehole rehabilitation in rural Africa which removes the need to boil and purify water as communities can get it clean from the source, and another that provides clean cookstoves to African households so that they no longer have to cook their food on coal filled fires.

Purchasing the offsets from these projects not only allows us (and you) to enjoy our products and deliveries guilt free but it means that you know that each purchase helped support something that did a little bit of good in the world and helped African communities drink clean water or eat cleaner food cooked more sustainably.
